Black Lives Matter: Where to Donate

Screen-Shot-2020-06-03-at-8.54.51-PM

Time and time again, Black communities find themselves in situations that deny them of their humanity and consequently their lives become endangered. On May 25, 2020, George Floyed, a 46-year-old black man, was murdered in Minneapolis, Minnesota when Derek Chauvin, a white police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds while Floyd was handcuffed face down in the street. Chauvin did not budge even when Floyd begged for his life, weakly screaming, “Please, I can’t breathe.” Other officers at the scene- Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao- merely stood by and watched while ignoring bystanders’ cry for Chauvin to take his knee off Floyd’s neck. Chauvin did not remove his knee even after Floyd lost consciousness. During the last couple minutes, Floyd was motionless and had no pulse, but the officers made no attempt to revive him.

The senseless death of George Floyd while in police custody has left millions in our country shaken, angry, and wondering how is it possible in our day that another black person in America could die in such circumstance. Floyd is yet another reminder of the hatred and racism that is embedded in our country. In light of these heart-breaking targeted injustices, supporters of the BLM movement are coming together in determination to fight for a world where there is no white supremacy, where Black lives are not systematically targeted, and where there is space for Black imagination, innovation and joy. We must amplify our voices and educate those around us, once again, that Black Lives Matter.
